Clean Energy and Quantitative Product Engineering
-A history of research for the benefit of society
Kim Dam-Johansen
Professor, Head of Department
Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering
Technical University of Denmark
Kim Dam-Johansen is a professor (since 1993) and the head of Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, at Technical University of Denmark, DTU. He has established a research center in Combustion and Harmful Emission Control in 1987 and a new center in Coatings Science and technology in 2017. After some years as Group Vice President in the global coatings company Hempel in the late 1990’ties, he became the head of Department in 2000 and was involved in restructuring the Technical University of Denmark to a self-governing university. In all the years, Prof. Dam-Johansen has been closely related to China. In 2011, he was appointed as Einstein professor by Chinese Academy of Sciences.
In the presentation, Prof. Dam-Johansen will inform about Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, Technical University of Denmark and how research in combustion and harmful emission control has facilitated the power sector in Denmark in a journey from 0 % coal to almost 100 % coal and back to 0 %. He will also inform about how Chemical Engineering disciplines are used for quantitative product design, exemplified with heavy duty anti-fouling and intumescent coatings.
